Elihu continues his commentary to Job on the attributes of God in Chapter 37 and although he misdiagnoses the source of Job’s problems, he offers truth regarding the dangers of pride.
1. We lack the ability within ourselves to “figure out” God. Job 37:23-24 “Touching the Almighty, we cannot find him out:“
2. His ways transcend our ability to understand them through human rationale.
“he is excellent in power, and in judgment, and in plenty of justice: he will not afflict.”
3. We must therefore develop a humble reverence for Him.
“Men do therefore fear him: he respecteth not any that are wise of heart.”
LESSON - There is nothing within our sinful being which provides the necessary enlightenment to know God and understand His ways. Therefore, we must fully utilize the light which He has provided to mankind through the Holy Spirit and His word. The promise He gave to Israel is applicable to us today. Jer. 29:13-14a “And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. And I will be found of you, saith the LORD...”
