When a child of God completely submits his life to the Lordship of Christ, God gives his life new meaning and purpose. God’s plan is always far greater than his human mind can imagine and always requires an act of faith to accomplish. To commemorate this awesome event, God changed Abram’s and Sarai’s name to reflect His plan for their lives.
Gen. 17:1-7 “And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God;”
1. Abram’s Act of Faith
“walk before me, and be thou perfect. And I will make my covenant between me and thee,”
V9-10 “And God said unto Abraham, Thou shalt keep my covenant therefore, thou, and thy seed after thee in their generations. This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised.”
V23 “And Abraham took Ishmael his son, and all that were born in his house, and all that were bought with his money, every male among the men of Abraham's house; and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin in the selfsame day, as God had said unto him.”
2. God’s Great Plan revealed
“and will multiply thee exceedingly. And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying, As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations.”
3. The corresponding transformation
“Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee. And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee. And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.”
LESSON - When God saved me in high school, the most I could see myself accomplishing was becoming a bass singer in a professional quartet. If you had told me that I would one day be preaching the Gospel and training others to share their Faith, I would not have believed you. Back then, I would’ve told you that an Act of God would be required for me to become that individual. Today, my life is the result of that Act of God. Here’s my question for you. What about your life reveals God‘s supernatural intervention? Where is the Act of God on your life? Don’t settle for less than God’s Best! Once you experience it, you’ll never be the same and you’ll never regret it.
