We’re just passing through!

Updated: Jun 11, 2024

An old hymn writer once wrote "this world is not my home, I'm just passing through." There have never been truer words for a Believer. With that in mind, God instructs us how to be good guests while we are here.

1 Pt. 2:11-14 "Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims,

1. Avoid temptation to sin.

"abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;"

2. Maintain a godly testimony.

"Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation."

3. Be good, obedient citizens.

"Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well."

LESSON - Verse 17 summarizes this passage, "Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king." If we do these things, we will not become enamored with the sinful things this world has to offer, we will maintain a clean testimony, and we will glorify God while honoring those whom God has temporarily appointed as our earthly authorities. Remember you're not here to stay, you're just passing through!
