We must never take for granted the opportunities we have to worship God. It is during these times that we experience fellowship with Him, receive His direction, experience His peace, and see His plan unfold in and through our lives. During Jacob’s (Israel) journey to Egypt, he stopped in Beersheba to spend time with the Lord and this was his experience:
1. He worshipped God.
Gen. 46:1-4 “And Israel took his journey with all that he had, and came to Beersheba, and offered sacrifices unto the God of his father Isaac.”
2. God spoke to him.
“And God spake unto Israel in the visions of the night, and said, Jacob, Jacob.”
3. He submitted to God’s will.
“And he said, Here am I.”
4. God gave him peace.
“And he said, I am God, the God of thy father: fear not to go down into Egypt;”
5. God revealed His plan.
“for I will there make of thee a great nation:
6. God promised His abiding presence.
“I will go down with thee into Egypt; and I will also surely bring thee up again: and Joseph shall put his hand upon thine eyes.” LESSON - Within this passage we see a wonderful outline to follow in order that we might experience Biblical worship. Our salvation is proof that God desires to spend time with us, so when we choose to worship God He responds to us. He longs to reveal truth to us through His Word and when we submit our will to His, He offers a peace that transcends human understanding (Phil. 4:7). As we follow the HS leading, we begin to see God’s plan being fulfilled in us. As we continue, our lives experience a journey of peace that continues until our eyes close in death. Imagine that, to have peace in this life and eternal joy in the next! It’s ours to experience if we would choose to worship God on a regular basis.
