James 1:26-27 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain. Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world. LESSON - Next to our thought life, our speech is the quickest reflection of our sinful hearts. The phrase “I did not mean what I said” is not a truthful statement. Not only should we apologize more often for what we say, maybe we should focus more upon our motives for saying certain things. If our responsibility as outlined in Eph 4:12 is ultimately to glorify God with our lives and edify others, our purpose is negated and our faith is in vain when we tear others down. Remember you have been saved and called by God “For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:”
