Wait for what’s BEST!

Don’t settle now for something less than God’s best which awaits you later. We have so much to learn from re-examining the story of Jacob & Esau.

1. He had a genuine physical need.

Gen. 25:29-34 “And Jacob sod pottage: and Esau came from the field, and he was faint: And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom.”

2. He was unprepared for temptation.

“And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright.”

3. He was consumed with immediate physical gratification.

“And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me? And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob.

4. He failed to consider the long term consequences of his actions.

“Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright.”

LESSON - We must realize that normal physical desires can be perverted. We should be wary of temptation during those times. Consider the possible outcomes of yielding to your desires. It often leads to long lasting consequences. Understand that delayed gratification is typically God’s means for revealing spiritually maturity. People who desire immediate gratification unknowingly sacrifice God’s blessings by settling for earthly things which are inferior. Don’t settle for less than God’s BEST! I know many people who did and they all regretted it. I’ve never known one who waited upon the Lord and were left hungry and unfulfilled.
