Since life is in the blood and sin results in death (Rom. 6:23), blood MUST be shed for sin’s debt to be paid. Therefore, there is NOTHING you can do in this life to pay for your own sin. A substitute is required!
Lev. 17:11 “For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.”
1. Righteous works are insufficient for salvation because blood MUST be shed.
Heb. 9:22 “And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.
2. OT sacrifices were merely pictures of Jesus’ blood offered in Heaven before the presence of God the Father.
V12, 24 “Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:”
3. His one time sacrifice was sufficient to cover the sins of ALL mankind for ALL time.
V28 “So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.”
LESSON - For those who will not experience the Rapture, God has appointed a specific day for you to physically pay for sin’s debt according to V27 “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” Make sure that you are ready for the judgment to follow by placing your faith in His sacrifice!
