Make sure you’re clean, inside and out!

Lk 11:39-40 And the Lord said unto him, Now do ye Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the platter; but your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness. Ye fools, did not he that made that which is without make that which is within also?

LESSON - The Pharisees were renowned for their pious religiosity. They presented themselves as very spiritual on the outside, yet God saw their sinfully prideful hearts. Jesus basically ask the question “who are you fooling?” God made you inside and out and sees you as you really are. You may impress people, but in the end it will not matter when you stand before the Lord. Some secularist abhor that mentality and say to themselves “I am sinful, therefore I’m going live as a sinner.” It is for this reason that you see a rise in the number of people who claim to be atheist and agnostic in order to avoid hypocrisy. Jesus’ calling in this passage of scripture is to simply be genuinely godly. You should strive for Christ-likeness and holiness knowing that you will not always be successful, but that’s what grace is for. Strive to BE like Him AND LIVE like Him and claim the promises in God’s word. Prov 24:16 “For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.” This is the basis of the victorious Christian life!
