The Sufficiency of God’s word.

Updated: Jun 11

God’s word is enough! For most Bible believing Christians, we believe in the inerrancy and infallibility of God’s word. The real challenge of our faith comes when the problems of life overwhelm us and we are forced to truly depend upon the Bible. It’s on this living level of life where we find God’s word to also be sufficient.

1. God’s word provides everything that we need to live godly lives.

2 Pt. 1:3-4 “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”

2. God’s word is given a higher priority than ANY experience or feeling we can have.

V17-28a “For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.

We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place,”

3. We must make sure that we understand God’s word in it’s proper context without “over spiritualizing” it. We must know what it says, not what it says “to me.”

V20-21 “Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.”

LESSON - If your choices are based primarily on your experiences or feelings, you have opened yourself to deception. Even if they are Biblically correct, they must play a secondary role to the Bible which must become your primary source of truth. Remember, the Bible was not given to reinforce what you believe, it was given to be the foundation of ALL that you believe.
