Should ”Self Control” be our goal?

Updated: Jun 11

Christ said that the Lordship of Christ is for the humble. Why?

1. They see their need.

Mt 11:28-30 “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

2. They are teachable.

“Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me;”

3. They desire the character of Christ for themselves.

“for I am meek and lowly in heart:”

4. They desire the change that sanctification brings.

“and ye shall find rest unto your souls.”

5. They view the Lordship of Christ as something beneficial, not merely controlling.

“For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

LESSON - Who controls you? You may think that you exhibit self-control, but do you? Examine the decisions that you are making and why you are making them. Ask yourself the hard questions. Is my sin nature manifested in my motivation or does Christ really control every aspect of my life. I leave you with a few verses upon which to meditate:

Prov 14:12, 14 “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways:

and a good man shall be satisfied from himself.” Is 55:8-9 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” He will always be a better steward of our lives than us.
