Gen. 7:1-3 “And the Lord said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation. Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens, the male and his female: and of beasts that are not clean by two, the male and his female. Of fowls also of the air by sevens, the male and the female; to keep seed alive upon the face of all the earth.
LESSON - Most people never realize that God had commanded Noah to bring not just 1 pair, but 7 pairs of CLEAN beast and fowls into the Ark. He clearly outlines within this passage that these animals had a special task of helping seed the earth after they left the Ark, but why 7 pairs? That question is answered when Noah and his family left the Ark. The first thing they did in response to God’s grace offered unto them was worship God with sacrifices. Notice Gen. 8:20-21a “And Noah builded an altar unto the Lord; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar. And the Lord smelled a sweet savour;” Noah believed God’s promises and it kept his family alive. Believing that God would keep His promise, Noah prepared his sacrifice and prepared for worship in anticipation of what God was about to do. This passage reveals how sweet that worship was to God. God has kept us alive and provided for our every need as well. We should prepare for our sacrifice in worship to God with the same diligence, believing that God will remain faithful to us just as He was faithful to Noah.
