Our goal as Believers is to love God and others as He loves us.
Jn 15:9-14 “As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.”
REAL LOVE IS...
1. Our motivation for obedience.
“If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.”
2. The Key to REAL joy.
“These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.”
3. Sacrificial and “others” focused.
“This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”
4. Personal and relational.
“Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.”
LESSON - When you understand love on this level, you begin to realize that it’s the motivation behind everything that you do. Every time you choose to love others and God, you glorify God as a result because He is your friend. Every time you choose to love your self instead, you then realize that ALL sin is ultimately a failure to love Biblically. As you examine the things which you have done recently and your motives for doing them, does it reveal a love for God or self? Think about it!
