Acts 5:27-32 And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them, Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us.
Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.
The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree. Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins. And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.
LESSON - There is a lesson that I learned when I was very young. “You can’t please everybody. If you try, you will please no one.” This is especially true in the work of God. After Pentecost, Peter had been preaching the gospel everywhere and witnessing to people. His message had literally turned Jerusalem upside down. The Jewish leaders felt compelled to put a stop to it by throwing him and the other apostles in jail, but God sent his angels to free him so that he might continue. Through this, Peter had a choice to make. “Am I going to please the leaders of the society by which I have been raised, or am I going to please God?” This same man who had denied the Lord Jesus three times chose to please God more than man. “Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.” Many times throughout your life, you will be placed in a similar position where you will be forced to choose. Should you attempt to compromise in order to please both, you will make no difference at all. When that time comes, who will it be? God or man? Make the right choice and you will change your world!
