If you KNOW Him, He is WITH you & FOR you!

Updated: 6 days ago

As Israel continued on their conquest of Canaan, Adonizedek king of Jerusalem formed a league of nations to fight against Gibeon for making peace with Israel. Gibeon requested assistance from Isreal which God allowed. Through these series of battles, we see God move miraculously on behalf of His people.

1. God fought with them!

Josh. 10:11-14 “And it came to pass, as they fled from before Israel, and were in the going down to Bethhoron, that the LORD cast down great stones from heaven upon them unto Azekah, and they died: they were more which died with hailstones than they whom the children of Israel slew with the sword.”

2. God fought for them!

“Then spake Joshua to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon. And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day. And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the LORD hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the LORD fought for Israel.”

LESSON - This should serve as a reminder of how much God loves His people. We should also take note of the inexhaustible power available to us from God through prayer. Had Israel ignored God in this passage, history would have been much different. As you live each day, remember the words of “What a friend we have in Jesus”

What a Friend we have in Jesus,

All our sins and griefs to bear!

What a privilege to carry

Everything to God in prayer!

O what peace we often forfeit,

O what needless pain we bear,

All because we do not carry

Everything to God in prayer!
