Job‘s life before Satan‘s accusation was one filled with righteousness before the eyes of God and respect before the eyes of men. We see within his testimony the godly lifestyle that would draw God’s attention. These are the acts of a godly person:
1. He was friends to the helpless.
Job 29:12-13, 15-16 “Because I delivered the poor that cried,
and the fatherless, and him that had none to help him. The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me: and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy.
I was eyes to the blind, and feet was I to the lame. I was a father to the poor: and the cause which I knew not I searched out.”
2. He exemplified righteousness and holiness.
V14 “I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: my judgment was as a robe and a diadem.”
3. He withstood evil.
V17 “And I brake the jaws of the wicked, and plucked the spoil out of his teeth.”
LESSON - Men showed him respect because he had earned it. Respect should not be a goal, but should be a byproduct of genuine godliness, humility, and servant leadership. Do you have the respect of God and others? Don’t strive for it! Be a person who deserves it!
