Often when we think of holiness, too many Christians approach this subject from the wrong perspective. They ask if a particular activity is sinful in the eyes of God. Many ask the question “Why not?” when they should be asking “Why should I?” When we in our thinking attempt to make God less than what He is in order to accommodate our lifestyle, we in essence commit idolatry by making Him into something He is not. We are commanded to BE like Him, not He like us. How holy should we strive to be? As holy as Him, knowing that we will fall short but believing that His grace is sufficient.
Lev. 19:2 “Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy: for I the LORD your God am holy.”
V37 “Therefore shall ye observe all my statutes, and all my judgments, and do them: I am the LORD.”
LESSONS - In this chapter, we see another version of the 10 Commandments. Here He answers many of the questions of what we are to do and NOT do, but He also answers the BIG question of Why? 15 times in this chapter He says because “I am the LORD.” Regarding the lifestyle you choose to follow, you must remember that He will always be the standard, not you, me or anyone else! Strive to be holy like Him.
