Jesus’ disciples had at this point in scripture seen Him feed in excess of 15,000 people with a little boy’s lunch. There was even enough leftovers for 12 baskets of food, one for each of the tribes of Israel to feed other multitudes. On another occasion they had seen Jesus walk on the water and calm the storm, but yet they STILL struggled with their faith. Why? This passage identifies the problem. Their heart’s were hard!
Mk 6:51, 52 And he went up unto them into the ship; and the wind ceased: and they were sore amazed in themselves beyond measure, and wondered. For they considered not the miracle of the loaves: for their heart was hardened. LESSON - Some of you will receive little from God because you expect little from Him. You may have seen the Lord do wonderful things for others, but your prayer life contains very little spirit of expectation. Is it possible that through your daily routine and the grind of life that you have allowed your heart to become hardened? Take time to allow yourself to marvel at all that Jesus has done in scripture and in the lives of other people that you know personally. Remember His goodness towards you in the past and thank Him for all that He’s done for you. Go then and commit to consistent fellowship with Him through prayer and Bible study. Pray expecting God to do GREAT things in and through your life. Don’t allow a hardened heart to be an obstacle.
