Be careful when making an assessment of situations. In general, people have a tendency to over-spiritualize events based upon an unbiblical view of God and man. In the minds of many, bad things should only happen to bad people and good things should happen to good people. In reality, good and bad things happen to everybody. Here are a few Unbiblical views:
1. Problems in life always stem from God’s punishment upon the person for sins committed.
Acts 28:3-6 “And when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks, and laid them on the fire, there came a viper out of the heat, and fastened on his hand. And when the barbarians saw the venomous beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped the sea, yet vengeance suffereth not to live.”
2. Prosperity and healing are a result of God’s favor upon an individual.
“And he shook off the beast into the fire, and felt no harm. Howbeit they looked when he should have swollen, or fallen down dead suddenly: but after they had looked a great while, and saw no harm come to him, they changed their minds, and said that he was a god.”
LESSON - Bad things happen because we live in a sin fallen world with sin fallen bodies. As a result, we should all expect problems in life. Mt. 5:45 “...he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.” We can trust that if we are saved and obediently following the Lord, we will always remain under His protection. Ps. 37:23-24 “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand.”
