Don’t make a name for yourself!

Pride is the enemy of God’s plan.

Gen. 10:8-10 “And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth. He was a mighty hunter before the Lord: wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before the Lord. And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.” LESSON - God had commanded Noah and his family to “be fruitful, multiply, and replenish the entire earth”. Rather than focusing upon raising generations of people who would know God personally, honor Him with obedience, and glorify Him before all nations, Ham’s descendent, Nimrod, chose to establish for himself a kingdom. He made a name for himself rather than God, he settled in the valley at Shinar rather than “replenishing the earth”, and he established four cities to his glory rather than God’s. Just like many churches today, he chose to turn inward and make a name for himself rather than look outward to the glory of God. One of those cities, Babel, became the next focus of God’s judgment all because of pride. Be careful when attempting to make a name for yourself. God shares his throne with no one.
