In this passage, Moses has now received his second copy of the 10 Commandments to be placed in the Ark of the Covenant. The focus of this passage then turns to the heart of the Law. Though God wants obedient followers, He has a greater desire for our hearts. He knows when this is accomplished, obedience and service are no longer dutiful but joyful for His followers! What does God desire from us?
Deut. 10:12-13 “And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee,”
1. For us to have a holy reverence for HIM.
“but to fear the LORD thy God,”
2. To follow His example.
“to walk in all his ways,”
3. To love & serve Him whole-heartedly.
“and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul,”
4. To view His commands as lovingly beneficial.
“To keep the commandments of the LORD, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good?”
LESSON - Take the time to consider all the areas of your life where you are currently obedient to God’s will. Then, ask yourself “Why?” If everything you do is dutiful, it will not last. You must first offer your heart and then your will to Him in order that you find the REAL joy of following Jesus.
V16 “Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no more stiffnecked.”
