Worldliness is offensive to God. God had chosen a specific promised land for His people so that they might remain a separate, special people for His purpose. He desired that they remain separated from Egypt which was an OT picture of The World. At that time, it was an ancient world power from which people from all nations would draw. God said to Isaac “Remain separated from them because I have an even better plan for you and your descendants.
Genesis 26:2-4 “And the LORD appeared unto him (Isaac), and said,”
1. If you will...
“Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of: Sojourn in this land,”
2. Then I will..
“and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I sware unto Abraham thy father; And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed;”
LESSON - A similar promise has been offered to us. Notice the reason why Christ came in Titus 2:14 “Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” If we will avoid the world’s influence (Egypt) and remain a holy, sanctified people God will do the same for us as He did for Isaac. He will:
1) Be with you forever
2) Bless you
3) Give to you
4) Keep His promises
5) Multiply your influence
6) Give to your heirs
Choose to be special, not one of the crowd. I would much rather have the Lord’s attention than to have the eyes of the world upon me. Wouldn’t you? The world will eventually forget about you, but the Lord will make sure you are remembered for all of eternity. Choose to be a sanctified, holy person of God!
