So often, we focus upon the things that God would have us to DO rather than focusing on the person God desires for us to BE. Here are a few character traits God desires for each of us:
1. Be submissive
1 Pt. 5:5-11 “Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another,”
2. Be humble
“and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:”
3. Be prayerful
“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”
4. Be alert
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:”
5. Be mature
“Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.”
LESSON - Our society views many of these character traits as negative and signs of weakness. Let’s be clear! God desires for you to be submissive, but also steadfast. God desires for you to be humble, but also confident. God desires for you to be prayerful, but also active. He desires for you to be serious and mature, but not overbearing and arrogant. We are called by God to be meek, powerfully under His control.
Phil. 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth with me.”
