An audience of ONE

As Paul instructed Christians on the proper use of their spiritual gifts, he revealed God’s standard for worship when His people come together.

1. We are to use our spiritual gifts primarily for the purpose of edifying the church, not ourselves.

1 Cor 14:26b, 33, 40

“Let all things be done unto edifying.”

2. We are to use our gifts to promote unity and peace within the church.

“For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.”

3. We are to worship God with our best preparation. Our services should be Holy Spirit planned, as well as Holy Spirit led.

“Let all things be done decently and in order.”

LESSON - We come together in worship to exalt God and edify others. The fulfillment we experience should come from knowing what we have offered God was pleasing in His sight. As Pastor Bill Monroe recently stated in a sermon “We sing for an audience of ONE.”
