There were few men in scripture who drew praise from God as did Job. Notice the behaviors which revealed his character and exemplified his life.
1. He was spiritually mature and godly.
Job 1:1, 5, 20-22
“There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright,”
2. He had a holy reverence for God.
“and one that feared God,”
3. He constantly avoided temptation.
“and eschewed evil.”
4. He dedicated his family to the Lord.
“And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them,”
5. He prayed for his family and regularly sacrificed for them.
“and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.”
6. He was thankful and faithful in trials.
“Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped, And said,
Naked came I out of my mother's womb,
and naked shall I return thither:
the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away;
blessed be the name of the Lord.”
LESSON - You see in Job’s life a picture of Christ. Even in his grief from losing everything and everyone in his life, he maintained a Christlike testimony. Notice how he is described in the last passage of scripture in this chapter.
“In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.”
In the midst of all his losses, he found the Lord to be enough. May we follow this godly man’s example and emulate his attitude in trials.
