Want God’s blessings?

Updated: Jun 11

From their origin, Israel has been a people established in a covenantal relationship with God. God’s message to them in this chapter was very simple. With obedience comes blessing, but with disobedience comes judgement. Notice these promised blessings from God:

Deut. 28:1-9 “And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth: And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God.”

1. All segments of society will be blessed!

“Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field.”

2. Your family heritage will be blessed!

“Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body,”

3. Your work will prosper!

“and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep. Blessed shall be thy basket and thy store.”

4. God will make you victorious in battle!

“Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out. The LORD shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face: they shall come out against thee one way, and flee before thee seven ways.”

5. God will make your way prosperous!

“The LORD shall command the blessing upon thee in thy storehouses, and in all that thou settest thine hand unto; and he shall bless thee in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.”

LESSON - God wanted to make sure that His people clearly understood this principle. He takes great joy in blessing His people who choose to live in accordance with His will and His way.

“The LORD shall establish thee an holy people unto himself, as he hath sworn unto thee, if thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, and walk in his ways.”

God has given us a similar promise in Heb. 11:6 “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

Ultimately, your faith is expressed by your obedience to His word and your obedience is key to His blessing. If you want God’s blessings upon your life, you must increase your faith through the study and implementation of His word in your life. He will make of you a person worthy of His blessings!
