Beware traditions which may become sacrosanct. Be careful of that which you may have the tendency to call “holy”.
Acts 15:24, 28
Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment;
For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;
LESSON - God had a specific reason for requiring all Jewish men and people within their household to be circumcised. This was the OT’s version of baptism where God used a physical act to display and outward expression of an inward faith. He never intended either of these ordinances to become sacraments, required works for salvation. Mankind has a tendency to make idols of everything! Beware any inclination you may have to identify something as HOLY which God merely considers important. If these things are not kept in their proper priority, they can become a focus of worship and actually cause you to stray from the faith or break fellowship with other Believers. Good things such as music styles, church programs, or personalities can easily replace the worship of God IF we are not mindful. Know what REALLY matters to the heart of God!
