One day we will be free from sin. Our thoughts will be different, our physical limitations will be gone, and our fleshy desires will be eradicated. Knowing this, why should we settle for temporal things here which will be meaningless there. Especially since God has given us the resources to live above these things now. An old hymn writer once wrote these words “Lord lift me up and let me stand, by faith on Heaven’s table land. A higher plain than I have found, Lord lead me on to higher ground” Here are a few challenges:
1. Put off - Earthly temporal things / Put on - Heavenly eternal things.
Col. 3:1-2, 4 “If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.”
2. Put off - Sinful deeds / Put on - Christlikeness
V9b-10 “...seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him”
3. Put off - Selfishness & Disunity / Put on Godly Love and Peace
V14-15 “And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.”
LESSON - For the Believer, we have the ability in many ways to live this life as if it were a “dress rehearsal” for Heaven. Why wait for Heaven? Eternal life began for you the day you were saved, so don’t settle! Begin to enjoy the wonderful benefits of eternity now.
