Good Christians should be good citizens

Updated: Jun 11

Lk 20:22-25 Is it lawful for us to give tribute unto Caesar, or no? But he perceived their craftiness, and said unto them, Why tempt ye me? Shew me a penny. Whose image and superscription hath it? They answered and said, Caesar's. And he said unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which be Caesar's, and unto God the things which be God's. LESSON - Christians have asked this question for years. “Why should I pay my taxes when my money is put towards evil causes such as abortion?” In this passage of scripture, the Lord addresses the subject in a very general sense but clearly. The Roman government was renowned for its evil and corruption, yet the Lord stated to his listeners that they should pay their taxes and honor their authority. We must remember every time we see first responders in action that our tax dollars are being put to some good use. If you want to make a difference in society, assume your first responsibilities by voting and paying your taxes. Pray for those who have authority over you. Stand boldly for those things which are right and seek to influence those around you for the cause of Christ. Seek to change the world one person at a time.
