There’s an old saying which says “Cream always rises to the top” meaning people who maintain an excellent spirit regardless of their circumstances always manage to rise to the top. JOSEPH was second only to Potiphar in his house before he was thrown in prison. Now that he is in prison, He is placed in another position of authority. Why?
1. He had a servant spirit.
Gen. 40:4 “And the captain of the guard charged Joseph with them, and he served them: and they continued a season in ward.
2. He glorified God with his gifts and abilities.
V8 “And they said unto him, We have dreamed a dream, and there is no interpreter of it. And Joseph said unto them, Do not interpretations belong to God? tell me them, I pray you.”
3. He lived a clean life before God.
V15 “For indeed I was stolen away out of the land of the Hebrews: and here also have I done nothing that they should put me into the dungeon.”
4. He exuded patience.
V23 “Yet did not the chief butler remember Joseph, but forgat him.”
LESSON - Your circumstances do not have to determine the spirit with which you run your race in life. The obstacles that are on your course are placed there by God to develop you while you run. At times, God places adversity in order to re-directed you towards a better path, His path instead of yours. Again you cannot change your circumstances, but you can always choose the spirit with which you live your life. So, choose wisely!
